Our love for the original Chem Dog spurred a fascination with cannabis that started in 1991. When we pop seeds from our collection that we have grown and reserved over the years, we are looking for good weed. And by good weed, we mean that it has to be better or comparable to the strains and terpenes we have cherished for over 30 years.

Chem 5 checks all our pheno-hunt selection boxes – awesome structure, smell, smokability, and it is fun to grow! This strain is a Chem Dog 91 offspring that brings the past to the future. Heavy on the Chem in smell and high, with a contemporary structure producing subtle hues of purple that create an indica leaning hybrid.

ICC’s founder was one of the original testers of the Dogbud seeds Chem 1, 2, 3 and 4 when they were broken out in the early 2000’s. Those plants were discarded after testing and the original Chem 91 remained our favorite Dog. Coincidentally, this pheno’s identifying number during our in-house testing was ‘Chem 5.’ After a few test rounds and a few high fives, the name Chem 5 stuck as an ode to the past and a look to the future.

For our first attempt at this genetic combination we popped over 100 seeds, but didn’t love how any of them came out and sent them all to manufacturing… and oh the hash! We re-hunted and found a suitable pheno because many people do love the grape and gas flavors. We acquired the Modified Grapes strain from a friend and it is a renowned hash yielder that brings a new flavor to the IC Collective catalog
